UAV Topographical Survey For Holiday Park

Surveying a large open site can be extremely time-consuming if you stick to traditional methods. Fortunately, 360RI’s future-focused methods have enabled our teams to quickly collect incredible levels of detail from the air. How? By using UAV drone photography combined with 3D modelling tools to construct reliable and highly accurate data. For one holiday park company, who needed to lodge a planning application, time was of the essence…

The Challenge

In any large site survey, time is a factor. For our clients, who needed to lodge a planning application, it was even more vital that their surveying team could capture data quickly. The sheer size of the 100 acre site was also a challenge — it’s important that detail is not lost even when a site is very large. We needed to produce accurate data, but also to produce imagery and planning tools that could be clearly displayed and inspected by our client.

The 360RI Solution

We used UAV drones to fly over the entire site and capture high quality imagery. By combining our Sensefly eBEE UAV hand in hand with traditional methods, we cut down on the project time and could deliver highly accurate site photography in a fraction of the time. The photographs were stitched on top of one another to create a full range of outputs for use in planning applications.

The Results

Our UAV drone topographic survey method was carried out in just one week as opposed to a more traditional four weeks! In addition, the incredible level of image quality allows a client to drill-down into fine detail, simply by zooming in on the photographs without any loss of quality. This high level of detail is only made possible by UAV drone photography – and is vastly superior to older methods. By giving the client with this highly accurate photography, they could inspect the site digitally by simply panning and zooming on the imagery. We also used presented the client with a full range of outputs they could use including Point Cloud Data, Aerial Orthomosaic Image & Topographical Survey in 2D/3D AutoCAD.DWG.
